Battle Report
Four
The
night was slowly starting to fade away, the darkness being replaced by the light of day. His forces had moved on foot all
night, covered in their advance by the swift elements of reconnaissance units of the Ravenwing. The orders that Marxus had
received were clear and explicit, leaving no room for doubt: “Capture Mel’thion, and if possible, halt the Eldar
advance”.
Moving into a forest, positioning his troops just inside it, in cover behind the trees, and the Ravenwing behind,
Marxus and his tiny detachment awaited the Eldar thrust.
Not long afterwards, their wait was rewarded, and crossing the crest of a hill not far away, the xenos came
into view. Reaching for his voxlink, Marxus sent a signal to his command: “Ready to engage!”…
Force Dispositions:
Detachment Alpha: Codicier Librarian Marxus, Deathwing Squad Adonai, 3rd
Tactical Combat Squad, 6th Tactical Combat Squad, Scout Sniper Detachment “Bravo”, Ravenwing Land Speeder
Tornado “Havoc”, Ravenwing Landspeeder “Angel’s Fury”, Ravenwing Attack Bike Squadron “Delta”.
Rhiadan Host: Farseer, 9 Striking
Scorpions, 5 Storm Guardians w. Warlock Mel’thion, 2 Wraithlords, Falcon Grav Tank, Wave Serpent Transport, 6 Eldar
Rangers.

Turn 1:
Eldar:
Determined to exterminate the Dark Angel Space Marines and secure the utter demoralisation of the PDF, Mel’thion
ordered a full advance. Lumbering forward the two Wraithlords advanced on either side of the Falcon, whilst on the Eldar right
flank, the Wave Serpent sped forward.
Coming
to a halt not far from the forward Dark Angel line, the lumbering constructs opened fire on “Havoc”, which could
just be seen behind the forest. A lucky shot from the Starcannon clipped it, and downed it. Not content with this, the second
Wraithlord, armed with a Brightlance, fired at it as well, and destroyed it utterly, though not before the crew had bailed.
From their positions on the furthest hill, the Rangers fired their longrifles at the 6th Squad, and managed to
kill a single one. The Falcon fired its Starcannon at the 3rd Squad, and also managed to kill one of them. Ending
the Eldar firing phase, the Wave Serpent missed its twin-linked Brightlance shot at 3rd Squad.

Dark Angels:
Annoyed at the loss of “Havoc”, Marxus sent the two surviving crew men back towards the regrouping
area. The only elements of the Dark Angel force which moved were “Angel’s Fury” and Squadron “Beta”,
who cleared the forest. Squad “Adonai” also marched forward, ready to face the Wraithlords.

Having come out from their shelter, the surviving Ravenwing elements opened fired at the Wraithlord furthest
to their left, and managed to crack its wraithbone armour in a single place. From their positions in the forest, the 3rd
Squad fired all their weapons at the same Wraithlord, and despite hitting it with two shots from the Plasma Guns and once
with their Lascannon, they only managed to wound the construct once more, leaving it smoking. 6th Squad wanted
to fire at the same, but got distracted, and fired instead at the Falcon, but failed to inflict any serious damage on it.
The scouts suffered the same fate, but in a stroke of luck, one of the Scouts managed to get a bead on the pilot, and a single
head shot sent the tank crashing to the ground. The Storm Guardians inside got thrown around and two of the got crushed to
death, leaving the survivors shaken and pinned. Squad “Adonai” fired their Assault Cannons at the closest Wraithlord,
and their rending munitions managed to wound it twice.
Turn 2:
Eldar:
Desiring to protect his forces, the Farseer in the Wave Serpent attempt to call upon his powers, so that they
would shield him and his forces, but Marxus, alert to any shifts in the warp quickly nullified the budding power.
Moving forward once again, the Serpent claimed the south-eastern quadrant of the battlefield. The two Wraithlords
moved to shield the exposed Storm Guardian squad, whilst the Rangers stayed stationary on their hill.
In response to being wounded by the Terminators, the Wraithlord fired its Starcannon at Squad “Adonai”,
and in a blaze of fire, three noble marines, veterans of a hundred campaigns, gave up their spirits to their Primarch and
the Emperor. The Wave Serpent and the second Wraithlord both fired their Brighlances at “Angel’s Fury”,
and whilst one missed entirely, the capable pilot managed to jink out of the way, of what would otherwise most likely have
downed them. The Rangers fired at the Scouts, and managed to kill two of them.
Dark Angels:
Seeing
their chance, the Ravenwing elements sped forward, and came to a halt immediately behind the Wave Serpent, blocking the exit
ramp. Marxus moved forward and joined the Scouts, whilst the two remaining Deathwing moved forward, towards the Wraithlord.

Firing all that they had, 6th Squad unleashed a hail of Lascannon and Plasma munitions. Most of it
glanced of the energy field which surrounded the Wave Serpent, but the last Plasma shot tore through the plating covering
the engine block. The engine started to stutter before finally dying, and with a slow graceful movement, the transport crashed
to the ground. As the Scorpions and the Farseer tried to exit the burning wreck, they found the exit blocked by “Angel’s
Fury”. Unable to escape, they all perished in the flames…
Seeing how efficient the fire of 6th Squad had been, the Scouts wanted to fire at the Rangers, but
they failed to inflict any casualties, as their targets were in sufficient cover. 3rd Squad fired all that they
had at the Brightlance Wraithlord, but failed to wound it. In the process the Plasma Gunner suffered an overheat, but luckily
his armour saved him. Squad “Adonai” swung the massive barrels of their Assault Cannons to target the closet Wraithlord,
and in a hail of shots, the towering war machine finally fell to the ground and shattered to pieces.
Turn 3:
Eldar:
Seeing that their army commander was gone, the Storm Guardians and Mel’thion advanced towards Squadron
“Delta”, flanked by the sole remaining Wraithlord.
The Snipers fired at “Angel’s Fury”, and in a moment of luck, their shots tore through the
pilot and the gunner, and the speeder crashed to the ground. The Storm Guardians and the Wraithlord fired at the Attack Bikes,
but their shots proved to be unequal to the task of penetrating the thick, ceramite armour, leaving the Squadron intact.
Not about to be denied some measure of blood, both the Wraithlord and the Storm Guardians charged the bikers.
In what proved to be a spectacularly unimpressive feat of arms, they failed to inflict any wounds; the Wraithlord even failing
to even hit. In return, the blows of the bikers saw the subjugation of Mel’thion, and the deaths of two of his companions…
Dark Angels:
Seeing that the fortune of war was favouring them, Squad “Adonai” moved towards the Rangers, whilst
6th Squad moved to claim the south-eastern quadrant of the battlefield.
Firing at the Rangers, the Deathwing Terminators were bitterly surprised to see that their weapons were just
out of range. Similarly, the Lascannon carried by 3rd Squad, and the Scouts sniper rifles all failed to make an
impression on the ice-cold Eldar Rangers, who stood firm in the face of all incoming fire.
The Wraithlord towered above Squadron “Delta”, and had it been able to scream, it would have. Finally
waking up to deed, it slew two bikers, and the third promptly gunned the engine on his attack bike, so that he could escape.
Though he managed to outrun the construct, he did not get far…
Turn 4
Eldar:
Not having many units to move around with, the Wraithlord advanced towards the Ravenwing Attack Bike.
The snipers fired at the approaching Deathwing Terminators, and their menacing Assault Cannons. However, the
tactical dreadnought armour was nigh-impenetrable, and neither of the two marines was harmed, though one did praise the sturdiness
of his armour.
The Wraithlord raised its massive hands and charged the fleeing biker. Unable to affect it, the Wraithlord tore
the last remaining Attack Bike into tiny, bloody pieces.
Dark Angels:
Seeing their chance of securing victory, the surviving elements of Squad “Adonai” moved en further
towards to the Rangers on the hill. 6th Squad moved into the quadrant to the south-east, and secured it.
Opening fire with all that they could, the Scouts were disappointed to see their careful fire bounce of the
hardened machine. 3rd Squad also rapid fired their Plasma Gun, and shot their Lascannon at it. The Lascannon missing,
and one of the Plasma shots overheating the gun, the effects of which the gunner’s armour luckily protected him, it
was only a single shot that impacted. Watching breathlessly, the Marines saw the Wraithlord start to sway ever so slightly,
until suddenly one of the legs snapped, bringing the construct crashing down into ruin.
With
deadly efficiency, “Adonai” was now in range and unleashed a hail of fire at the Rangers. Inflicting seven hits,
six of which wounded, four of xenos were shredded by the Assault Cannon munitions. Yet, despite this, they stood firm.

Turn 5:
Eldar:
In a last futile attempt to avenge the deaths of their companions, the two surviving Rangers fired their longrifles
at the Deathwing. Despite hitting, none of their shots managed to wound.
Acknowledging their defeat, the two Rangers slipped out of sight, and began to make their way back, so that
they could report upon the fate of the force…

Epilogue:
The sun shone in his eyes, and a sense of thirst overcame him, and brought him back to consciousness. His parched
throat almost unbearable dry, his body aching with bruises that the black armoured Marines had given him, Mel’thion
rolled over onto his stomach, and tried to rise. Suddenly, a heavy boot impacted on his back, sending him into the ground
once more. Over him stood the blue armoured Marxus, a triumphant look on his face. Now, having succeeded in the mission appointed
to him, he was sure that his lord Ciaphas would be well pleased with him, and that his earlier failure would be forgiven in
its entirety.
The Thunderhawk
had landed beside the wrecks of the xenos grav tanks, and the surviving marines had secured the perimeter, as the prisoner
and the wounded were loaded aboard. Far away, the scene was regarded with interest through the scope mounted on an Exitus
rifle. Observing the Dark Angels had been interesting and informative. Reaching for his voxlink, the Vindicare Assassin reached
for his vox-link, and sent a report back to the frontlines…
